Opinion Writing Lesson
This lesson is a cross-curricular lesson. The main focus is on writing, but it also includes math concepts as well.
Goals:
With teacher support, the class will conduct a survey.
Each student will use the data to support their writing.
Complex Concepts:
Students will be able to take the data and make different types of graphs which will give them a great visual representation.
Students will be able to use the data to help support their own opinion or defend against it.
Data to be used:
The data that will be used will come directly from the whole class survey. We will survey the class and then use that information to make a graph.
Column Headings:
For this lesson, the seasons will be listed as the heading for each column.
Row Headings:
There is only the need for one row, and the heading is the number of student responses.
All of the data used will come directly from the students. Once the data has been collected, with teacher support, the students will create a graph. Once the graph is complete, the students will write an opinion piece on their favorite season. They will use the data to either help support their decision or defend against it.
