Compare and Contrast
The topic of this lesson is focused on the ELA standard for First Grade which asks students to compare and contrast different characters and their adventures. Access to Google Docs is very limited for my kids and since that is the case, I find that it is most appropriate for the students to use pencil and paper. I would then transfer the information to the Google Doc. However, in a setting where Google Docs is an option, it would be a great tool to use for this lesson. With that being the case, I will write my lesson as if my students had the access.
Goals:
Students will work in pairs or small groups to fill out the document.
Students will identify the main characters.
Students will identify key details.
Students will identify the moral of the story.
Complex Concepts:
Students will find similarities between the two books as well as differences.
Students will use the information from their documents to make a Venn diagram as a whole class, with the support of a teacher. The diagram will show the similarities and differences of the two books. This will provide a clear visual for the students.
Students will work in pairs or small groups. This requires skills to work as a team and the ability organize thoughts as a team.
Collaboration:
With the assistance from their teacher, students are going to be working in partners or small groups. Each student will have a device of their own and will be working on the same document at the same time. This will allow for collaboration on the shared doc. Each student will be able to add their own thoughts and ideas while still working together.
